Economic Development & Research Intern 🕓 8 to 10 hours per week 💰 Stipend starting at $100 per week
Help turn community development ideas into action while gaining practical experience alongside Artie Jones III, founder of King City Advisors.
KCA is seeking an organized, curious intern interested in economic development, community revitalization, public administration, or urban planning. This role supports projects and partnerships involving local governments, HBCUs, development authorities, and community organizations.
What You Will Do
- Research communities, HBCUs, development initiatives, funding resources, and potential project opportunities.
- Organize contacts and existing relationships to help identify paths to introductions.
- Research conferences, speaking opportunities, and economic development panels.
- Maintain an outreach calendar and track contacts, responses, and follow up.
- Help prepare meeting agendas, capture action items, and track next steps.
- Gather project examples, community data, and supporting information for presentations and proposals.
- Reach out to local governments and organizations to schedule appointments to build relationships.
- Perform various clerical assignments as outlined.
What You Will Learn
Work alongside Artie to see how economic development moves from an initial conversation to a potential project. Learning opportunities include:
- Understanding how local governments, universities, developers, and funding partners work together.
- Learning how community assets and development needs inform project strategy.
- Exploring how funding sources and partnerships support development.
- Observing selected meetings and learning how professional relationships are built.
- Developing research, business writing, presentation, and project coordination skills.
- Understand economic development and how it affects local government and the community.
Who Should Apply
Students and emerging professionals interested in economic development, public policy, business, planning, real estate, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Strong candidates are dependable, comfortable researching unfamiliar topics, attentive to detail, and able to turn information into clear notes and organized next steps. Prior economic development experience is not required.
